‎The Anambra State Police Command has dismissed allegations circulating on social media that some senior police officers benefit from extortion allegedly carried out by personnel stationed at the Onitsha Bridge Head, describing the claims as inconsistent with the values and operational standards of the Nigeria Police Force.
‎
‎In a statement issued on July 25, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the command categorically rejects the allegations, stressing that the pride of every senior and supervising officer lies in leading teams that operate professionally, lawfully, and with integrity.
‎
‎SP Ikenga explained that while the command does not condone any form of misconduct, the actions of individual officers should not be mistaken for the official policy or directives of the Command. According to him, every police officer is personally accountable for his or her conduct, and any act of extortion, corruption, or unprofessional behaviour remains the responsibility of the officer involved.
‎
‎The command reiterated its unwavering zero-tolerance policy on corruption, extortion, and other unethical practices, assuring members of the public that all credible complaints are thoroughly investigated. It further stated that any officer found guilty of misconduct would face appropriate disciplinary measures in accordance with the laws and regulations governing the Nigeria Police Force.
‎
‎To strengthen accountability, the police command urged residents of Anambra State to report incidents of misconduct with verifiable details such as the date, time, location, vehicle registration number, and, where possible, the identity of the patrol team involved.
‎
‎Members of the public can submit complaints through the Command Control Room on 07039194332, the Police Public Relations Officer on 08039334002, or the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) on 08069262121.
‎
‎The command noted that such information would enhance its monitoring and disciplinary processes, while reaffirming its commitment to transparent, accountable, and people-oriented policing.
‎
‎It also expressed appreciation to the people of Anambra State for their continued cooperation and constructive feedback, which it said remain essential in building public trust and improving police service delivery.
