The Anambra State Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Barr. Ifeoma Chijioke, has been honoured with the Women of Distinction Award by Soroptimist International, Best Sisters, Anambra Chapter, Awka, in recognition of her exemplary leadership and outstanding public service.
The award was presented on July 24 during a courtesy visit by members of the chapter to her office in Awka. Speaking during the presentation, the Chapter President, Sr. Juliet Ibekwe, described Lady Chijioke as the first female Director of the National Orientation Agency in Anambra State, commending her remarkable achievements and commitment to public service.
Sr. Ibekwe noted that the honour reflects Lady Chijioke’s exceptional leadership and dedication to community development. She added that Soroptimist International remains committed to promoting the rights of women and girls through initiatives focused on education, leadership, empowerment, gender equality, and sustainable community development.
She explained that the organisation, founded in Barbados in 1928, now operates fourteen chapters across Nigeria, implementing programmes that empower women, girls, and men while fostering inclusion, social responsibility, and national development.
The chapter also appealed to the Director-General of the National Orientation Agency, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, to support its forthcoming international women’s conference in Nairobi, Kenya, by providing between 25 and 30 Nigerian flags to be displayed alongside those of other participating countries.
Responding, Lady Chijioke described the award as both unexpected and deeply appreciated, expressing gratitude to the organisation for the recognition. She reaffirmed NOA’s commitment to promoting responsible citizenship, integrity, national values, and community development through strategic partnerships that inspire lasting positive change.
She also commended Soroptimist International for its sustained efforts in empowering women and strengthening communities, assuring members that their request for Nigerian flags would be forwarded to the Director-General. She further encouraged the delegates to proudly represent Nigeria at the Nairobi conference.
Also honoured during the visit was former Chapter President, Best Sister Oby Patty Maduabum, who received the Award of Lifetime Commitment in recognition of her enduring contributions to the organisation.
In his remarks, the NOA Deputy Director, Mr. Remigius Obi, described Lady Chijioke’s recognition as richly deserved, praising her unwavering commitment, exemplary leadership, and outstanding service to both the agency and the people of Anambra State.
