In an effort to allay public concern and reinforce confidence in law enforcement, the Anambra State Police Command has called on residents to remain calm following public outrage over a viral video depicting two young women brutally assaulting a girl in Umueri.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ifejika, confirmed that 19-year-old Chidimma Ogugua, one of the suspects involved, is currently in police custody, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the second suspect, who is still at large.
Early investigations suggest the victim was physically assaulted after an altercation. The command characterized the incident as “cruel, inhuman, and unlawful,” while CP Ikioye Orutugu reaffirmed that justice will be served and that the command remains steadfast in its duty to protect the rights and dignity of every resident, particularly those in vulnerable circumstance.
The police however urged members of the public with information that could assist the investigation or lead to the arrest of the suspect to come forward, assuring that all disclosures will be treated with strict confidentiality.
