Anambra State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development has served demolition notices to owners of unapproved buildings in Ebenebe and Amanuke Communities, Awka North Local Government Area.

During the routine exercise on September 17, the Ministry’s team led by the Head, Development Control, Mrs Ngozi Okwudili, identified and marked illegal structures in the areas for demolition.

It also marked a two storey hospitality facility, Sophia Night Club, Ebenebe, explaining that the owner failed to obtain building permit before commencing work.

Okwudili, said that the ministry had issued several “Stop Work” notices and markings during construction of the building which the owner ignored.

She explained that the facility was illegally built and would be demolished in line with the state government physical planning law.

The Development Control Officer added that the enforcement visit across communities in Awka North was to also enlighten and notify other illegal developers on the intended demolition exercise.

She lamented that individuals erect structures, estates, layouts and develop lands in the area without approval from the Ministry.

Contributing, the Ministry’s District Head in Charge of Awka North Local Government Area, Tpl Chinaza Anyaora, noted that the exercise involved marking of no fewer than seven residential houses and structures illegally built by developers at Avo Village, Amanuke.

She pointed out that individuals must not erect structures in the area without obtaining necessary approvals from the ministry, stressing that it was no more business as usual.
