The Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, will on July 9 receive the National Legislative Award as the Most Outstanding Speaker in the South-East, in recognition of his leadership, legislative reforms and contributions to parliamentary development in Nigeria.
The award, organised by Hallowmace Africa in collaboration with the Conference of Speakers in Nigeria, will be presented during a ceremony at the NAF Conference Centre in Abuja.
The event is expected to attract prominent personalities from across the country, including members of the National Assembly, Speakers and members of State Houses of Assembly, senior federal and state government officials, as well as other distinguished Nigerians from the public and private sectors.
Ahead of the ceremony, stakeholders in Anambra State described the honour as well deserved, saying it reflects Rt. Hon. Udeze’s dedication to strengthening legislative governance and promoting democratic ideals.
According to them, the award recognises not only his effective leadership of the Anambra State House of Assembly but also his significant contributions to repositioning the legislature as a strong institution for good governance and democratic development in the country.
The stakeholders noted that under Udeze’s leadership, the 8th Anambra State House of Assembly has gained recognition for enacting people-centred laws, carrying out effective legislative oversight, maintaining a productive working relationship with the executive arm of government, and implementing reforms that have enhanced the Assembly’s reputation nationally.
In a statement, Hallowmace Africa and the Conference of Speakers in Nigeria said the Speaker emerged as the recipient of the award after a comprehensive assessment of his personal achievements, legislative innovations and the overall performance of the Anambra State House of Assembly under his leadership.
The organisers added that his commitment to quality representation, legislative excellence, public service and support for policies that promote good governance distinguished him among Speakers across the country.
They further commended the Anambra State House of Assembly for becoming a model of legislative excellence in Nigeria, attributing the achievement to Udeze’s visionary leadership and commitment to strengthening democratic institutions.
Congratulating the Speaker on the recognition, the people of Ogbaru Local Government Area, whom he represents, alongside religious leaders, political associates, colleagues, friends and other residents of Anambra State, described the award as a proud moment for the state.
They expressed confidence that the honour reflects the national recognition of Udeze’s leadership and prayed for continued wisdom, strength and good health for him as he continues to advance legislative excellence and serve the people.
