The Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Health, led by its Chairman, Hon. Tony Muobike, has conducted a familiarisation and oversight visit to the Anambra State AIDS Control Agency (ANSACA), reaffirming the legislature’s commitment to supporting the state’s HIV/AIDS response efforts.
During the visit on June 17, members of the committee engaged directly with the Executive Director of ANSACA, Dr. Nkem Okeke, and his management team in a strategic discussion aimed at enhancing collaboration between the state legislature and the agency.
Welcoming the delegation, Dr. Okeke introduced members of the management team and presented an overview of ANSACA’s activities since assuming office, highlighting the current HIV situation in Anambra State, noting that the state’s prevalence rate stands at 2.4 per cent, above the national average.
The Executive Director also unveiled the State Strategic Transformation and Sustainability Plan (SSTSP) 2026–2028, a roadmap designed to accelerate progress toward the UNAIDS 95-95-95 targets and position Anambra State to achieve HIV epidemic control by 2030.
In their remarks, Hon. Muobike and members of the committee commended Dr. Okeke for the proactive measures and reforms initiated since his appointment, assuring the agency of the House’s continued support, emphasizing that any legitimate request requiring legislative intervention would receive due consideration.
The lawmakers stressed the importance of sustained collaboration between the legislature and key health institutions in advancing public health outcomes across the state.
The visit concluded with a group photograph, symbolising the beginning of a strengthened partnership between the Anambra State House of Assembly and ANSACA in the collective pursuit of an AIDS-free Anambra.
