The Member representing Njikoka II Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly and Deputy Majority Leader, Dr Jude Ejikeme Akpua, has commended women for their contributions to leadership, family development, peacebuilding and community advancement.
Akpua gave the commendation while felicitating the Abagana Welfare Union Women’s Wing (AWUWW) at its summit held on Aug. 12, with the theme, “The Role of Women in Building Peaceful Homes and Stronger Communities.”
The summit brought together women of Abagana from home and the diaspora for dialogue, networking and exchange of ideas on issues affecting women, families and the wider community.
Represented by a delegation led by Hon. Ifunanya Nwanadile, APGA Deputy Mayoral Candidate in the forthcoming Local Government Election, Akpua commended the women’s wing for what he described as a demonstration of visionary leadership and commitment to women’s advancement and sustainable community development.
He said women remained central to building peaceful and prosperous societies, noting that the family was the first institution where values such as discipline, tolerance, integrity, resilience and mutual respect were nurtured.
The lawmaker also stressed the importance of women’s participation in leadership, economic development, social cohesion, moral formation and the preservation of cultural values, saying societies thrived when women were empowered to contribute meaningfully.
Akpua particularly commended the President of the AWUWW, Prof. Ebere Emengini, for her dedication, intellectual depth and commitment to community development. He also praised the executive team for promoting unity, meaningful dialogue and impactful community service.
According to him, the ideas and resolutions generated at the summit would help strengthen families and community institutions while supporting the social and economic development of Abagana.
He urged women to embrace leadership opportunities, collaborate constructively and advocate positive change, stressing that empowering women was a strategic investment in the future of families and communities. He described the summit as both a celebration of women’s achievements and a renewed call for greater female participation in leadership and community development.
Akpua congratulated the leadership and members of the AWUWW on the successful summit and wished the organisation continued success in promoting unity, development and the wellbeing of Abagana.
Other members of his delegation were his Personal Assistant, Hon. Ejike Chidozie; Hon. Cyprian Aniago; Chief Willie Akpu; Hon. Charles Emeh; and Mr. Enema Ezejiegu.
