The Anambra State Police Command has uncovered an alleged plot to murder a citizen and unlawfully take over his landed properties in Ukwulu, Dunukofia Local Government Area of the state.
The breakthrough, according to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, followed strategic intelligence deployment by the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama.
SP Ikenga revealed that the operation was carried out on August 12 by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, in collaboration with Agunechemba security personnel attached to Amichi, Nnewi, following credible intelligence on the alleged plot.
He said the operatives swiftly moved to disrupt the planned crime, arresting four suspects at different locations in Ukwulu and Amichi. The suspects were identified as Obiora Nwankwo, 38; Chiadikobi Okoye, 36; Emmanuel Mboko, 42; and Ifeanyi Obi, 37. Two firearms and live ammunition were also recovered during the operation.
According to the police, preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects may have been involved in a plan to murder a citizen and subsequently take possession of his landed properties.
The command said it was conducting a thorough investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged conspiracy, identify other persons who may have been involved and determine the specific roles allegedly played by each of the suspects. The four suspects are currently in police custody and will be prosecuted in accordance with the law upon completion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, said the successful operation underscores the importance of the command’s renewed intelligence-led policing strategy, assuring residents that the command would continue to strengthen intelligence gathering, inter-agency collaboration and proactive policing to prevent criminal activities and protect lives and property across the state.
