The Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has committed to settling all salary arrears owed to primary school teachers twenty years ago, dating back to 2001, 2002, and 2003, after verification and recertification.

“I learned that primary school teachers were owed 16 months, and previous administrations verified this debt, paying only five months about 20 years ago. Also, I understand that the arrears are over four hundred million or more.

“Currently, we are conducting a new recertification, and once completed, we will pay the arrears immediately,” he stated.

Governor Soludo made this announcement during the commissioning of the three-kilometre Ozu-Inyaba–Ozubulu–Ihembosi road in Ekwusịgbo Local Government Area on September 19.

He emphasised that local government administration in Anambra is functioning effectively, having been restructured and strengthened through the state’s local government law, which ensures that LGAs are physically resilient and sustainable.

“We want to avoid a situation where health workers are unpaid, or workers’ pensions and gratuities are owed.

“Today, we focus on development and delivering democratic dividends to the grassroots, which local governments are actively implementing, and the people are feeling the benefits. We have 137 projects awaiting commissioning—a testament to the development carried out by the APGA administration for the good of Ndi Anambra,” he said.

In addition to the road, the governor also commissioned the Ekwusigo LG Community Hall, CCTV control room, new legislative building, and council hall, all constructed by the outgoing Mayor of Ekwusigo LGA, Mr Chimezie Obi.
