The African Development Bank (AfDB) Cities Programme lead consultants, ACCIONA Group, have hosted the Managing Director/CEO of the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA), Dr. Ossy Onuko, in Madrid, Spain, as part of the palaongoing efforts to strengthen Awka’s urban development framework.
The visit was lpart of the City Profiling and Workplan Development for Awka under the AfDB’s Urban and Municipal Fund Programme. The engagement provided an opportunity for ACTDA to gain first-hand insight into global innovations, practical solutions and best practices in modern urban planning and sustainable city development.
During the working visit, discussions focused on critical areas including water and waste management, waste-to-resource and renewable waste initiatives, mass housing, roads, bridges and other urban infgprastructure. Other areas explored include innovation and digital transformation, tourism, as well as the socio-cultural dynamics that influence the growth and development of modern cities.
Dr. Onuko was received at the ACCIONA Campus in Madrid by the Managing Director of ACCIONA Engineering, David Madrigal, alongside a team of urban development experts. The discussions centred on practical strategies for building resilient, sustainable, inclusive and future-ready cities.
The engagement was expected to provide valuable global perspectives and technical expertise as Awka advances its strategic framework for sustainable urban growth and transformation, in line with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision of creating a liveable and prosperous homeland for Ndi Anambra.
