Aspirants vying for elective positions under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) ahead of the 2027 general elections have applauded the party’s decision to adopt the Option A4 voting system for its primaries, describing it as a bold move toward transparency and internal democracy.

The announcement was made by the Governor of Anambra State and National Leader of APGA, Chukwuma Soludo, during the South-East zonal stakeholders’ meeting held at the International Convention Centre Awka on Saturday.

Soludo explained that the adoption of Option A4—an open ballot system—would curb electoral manipulation, discourage vote-buying, and promote accountability, while also reducing the financial burden associated with primary elections.

Reacting to the development, a House of Representatives aspirant for Awka North and Awka South Federal Constituency, Ozo (Dr.) Azubuike Augustine Ekweozor, described the initiative as a “game changer” that guarantees a level playing field for all contenders.

He commended the party leadership, including the National Chairman, Sly Ezeokenwa, for what he called a commitment to fairness and due process, adding that the reform would strengthen grassroots participation and eliminate imposition of candidates.

Ekweozor noted that the new system would compel politicians to reconnect with their constituencies, build genuine support, and contribute meaningfully to party development at the grassroots.

Similarly, another House of Representatives aspirant for Dunukofia, Njikoka and Anaocha Federal Constituency, Chief Chukwudi Oli (Oba Eze-Afia), expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the meeting, saying the adoption of Option A4 would reward loyalty and active participation within party structures.

He described the development as a wake-up call for politicians to invest in party-building efforts and maintain close ties with their communities.

Also speaking, Chief Chukwuemeka Pat Orjiakor, an aspirant for Awka North and Awka South Federal Constituency, said the decision signals an end to the era of “anointed candidates” and political favoritism.

According to him, the governor’s stance has dispelled claims by some aspirants who had been allegedly using Soludo’s name to project themselves as preferred candidates.

“What this means is simple—aspirants must return to their wards and constituencies to earn the trust of party members. There is no longer room for moneybags or Abuja-based politicians who neglect their grassroots,” he said.

In the same vein, Hon. Prince Okeke Chinemelu Godwin, an aspirant for Idemili North State Constituency, described the Option A4 system as a true test of credibility, popularity, and acceptance among party faithful.

He emphasized that the reform would deepen internal democracy and ensure that only candidates with genuine support emerge as flag bearers.

Observers say the move by APGA could redefine party primaries in Nigeria, placing greater emphasis on transparency, accountability, and grassroots engagement as the 2027 elections approach.
