The Mayor of Idemili South Local Government Area, Anambra State, Hon. Oluchukwu John Ilogbenu , has restored hope to traders following the evacuation of a longstanding refuse dump at Eke Nnokwa Market.
For years, the refuse occupied valuable space, threatened public health and disrupted commercial activities, forcing some traders to lock up their shops to protect themselves from the unhealthy environment.

With residents doubting whether the mountain of waste could ever disappear, the situation had become a major environmental concern. However, Ilogbenu’s administration has now turned their doubts into relief and celebration.
Remarkably, the evacuation exercise commenced just two days after the Mayor’s swearing-in, demonstrating his administration’s determination to tackle longstanding challenges and deliver visible results at the grassroots.

The successful exercise has brought smiles to traders and residents, who are delighted to witness the transformation of an environment they had almost given up hope of reclaiming.
With the waste cleared, traders are gradually returning to their shops, reclaiming their business spaces and anticipating a cleaner, healthier and more conducive environment for their daily activities.
The intervention aligns with Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s declaration of a state of emergency on the environment and reinforces the administration’s Idemili South Rising vision.
As the evacuation exercise concludes, Eke Nnokwa Market offers a renewed sense of hope, demonstrating Ilogbenu’s commitment to environmental sanitation, public health and grassroots development across Idemili South.
