The Coordinator of the Women Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (WOWICAN), Onitsha North LGA, Anambra State chapter, Mrs. Ogochukwu Azubike, has urged women to remain steadfast in upholding truth, Christian values and moral standards in the face of growing societal challenges.
Mrs. Azubike made the call while addressing participants at the 2026 WOWICAN Women’s Convention, held on August 31 at St. Mary’s Parish Inland Town Onitsha under the theme, “Preserving the Truth in a Compromised Generation,” with the sub-theme, “Wise Women Building the Nation and Empowering the Male Child in a Contemporary Society”.
She described the theme as timely and challenging, noting that truth and godly values were increasingly being questioned and compromised in contemporary society. According to her, Christian women have a responsibility to stand firmly for God’s truth and ensure that faith, values and moral standards are preserved for future generations.
Quoting Proverbs 14:1, “Every wise woman buildeth her house,” the WOWICAN Coordinator explained that a wise woman does more than build a physical home, but also builds character, family, community, church and nation through prayer, wisdom, integrity, love, discipline and godly example.

Mrs. Azubike stressed that the preservation of truth begins in the home, saying children learn primarily from what they see their parents do. She therefore urged mothers to demonstrate honesty, respect, discipline, hard work and the fear of God, adding that parents cannot give their children values they did not possess.
The Coordinator also drew attention to the need for mothers to intentionally guide and empower the male child, especially in an era when boys were exposed to various influences from social media, friends, entertainment and society.
She said that empowering boys would go beyond providing food, clothing and education, explaining that they must also be equipped with good character, discipline, responsibility, self-control, compassion, respect and the fear of God.
She urged mothers to teach their sons to respect women and girls, value honest work, take responsibility for their actions and treat others with dignity.
Quoting Proverbs 22:6, “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it,” Mrs. Azubike said that effective child training required time, attention, patience, correction, encouragement and good example.
She cautioned mothers against leaving the upbringing of their sons entirely to schools, churches or society, stressing that the home remained the first and most important environment for character formation.
Speaking on the role of mothers in nation-building, Mrs. Azubike described mothers as powerful builders of society, noting that every strengthened home, guided child, encouraged person and promoted good value contributes to national developments.
She called on WOWICAN members to support one another, strengthen families, mentor the younger generation and use their positions and influence positively.
The Coordinator further encouraged women to stand for truth even when it was unpopular, refuse to compromise their Christian values and choose integrity over temporary gains.
“The future of the society is being shaped by what mothers teach and model today. When mothers build wisely, families become stronger; when families become stronger, communities become stronger; and when communities become stronger, the nation becomes stronger”, she said.
