World Standards Day, observed annually on October 14, recognises the contributions of experts who develop standards promoting quality, safety, efficiency and reliability across different sectors.
The observance highlights the importance of internationally recognised standards in improving products, services, industrial processes and public institutions for sustainable development.
Standards promote consumer protection by encouraging the production of safe goods, reliable services and systems that meet established quality requirements.
For governments, adherence to appropriate standards strengthens public accountability, improves service delivery and promotes the effective utilisation of resources for the benefit of citizens.

In Anambra State, quality standards remain important to the delivery of infrastructure, healthcare, education, environmental management and other essential services under the Solution Agenda.
The observance also provides an opportunity to encourage businesses, manufacturers and service providers to embrace best practices that promote innovation, competitiveness and public confidence.
Public awareness of standards can help consumers make informed choices while encouraging producers and service providers to maintain acceptable levels of quality and safety.
As Anambra continues pursuing a liveable and prosperous homeland, compliance with relevant standards can support sustainable infrastructure, economic growth and improved living conditions for residents.
World Standards Day therefore calls on government institutions, businesses and individuals to recognise quality standards as essential tools for safety, efficiency, accountability and sustainable development.
