The Vice President of the Ichi Development Union (Women Wing), Lagos Branch, Mrs. Chinyere Chukwudi, has praised the efforts of Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, in tackling the activities of fake clerics operating in the state.

Speaking during an interview on June 16, Mrs. Chukwudi described the governor’s actions as a bold and necessary step towards protecting residents from fraud, deception and other harmful practices often disguised as religious activities.

According to her, the campaign should not be misconstrued as an attack on genuine religious worship or freedom of belief. Rather, she said, it is aimed at safeguarding vulnerable individuals from exploitation by self-styled spiritual leaders who use fake miracles, false prophecies and fear tactics to manipulate people for personal gain.

She noted that many families have suffered emotional distress, financial losses and broken relationships as a result of misleading prophecies and unfounded accusations made by fraudulent clerics.

Mrs. Chukwudi said that efforts to curb such practices would help restore the integrity of religious institutions, strengthen family values and encourage a culture of diligence and self-reliance instead of dependence on promises of instant miracles.

While commending the state government, she emphasized that addressing the problem requires collective action, urging religious leaders to promote transparency and accountability within their congregations, openly denounce unethical practices and uphold the principles of genuine spiritual leadership.

She encouraged members of the public to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities and exercise discernment when seeking spiritual guidance.

“True spiritual leadership should inspire integrity, resilience and hard work rather than dependence on sensational claims and false promises,” she said.

Mrs. Chukwudi expressed confidence that sustained efforts by the government, religious bodies and the public would contribute to a healthier and more credible religious environment in Anambra State.
