The Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA) has on Sept. 16 received a delegation working with the World Health Organization (WHO) to document implementation experiences, innovations and best practices in health insurance under the Global Fund GC7 Resilient and Sustainable Systems for Health (RSSH) Grant.
The delegation, led by Mr. Prosper Chinoyerem, is conducting the documentation exercise across selected states, including Anambra, Ebonyi, Gombe, Kwara and Lagos.
During the engagement, the Executive Secretary of ASHIA, Dr. Augustine Ezeka, was interviewed on key aspects of the Agency’s operations, including governance, political support, coordination mechanisms, financial sustainability and other factors influencing the implementation and expansion of health insurance coverage.

The field exercise in Anambra, scheduled for Sept. 21 to 25, will involve Key Informant Interviews, Focus Group Discussions, reviews of relevant implementation documents and administrative records, as well as other forms of evidence gathering.
The exercise will also examine the pilot implementation of Vulnerable Populations Coverage under Social Health Insurance Schemes and the integration of HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis (TB) services into health insurance.
The initiative is being implemented with oversight from the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) and the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Programme (NTBLCP).
The documentation exercise is expected to capture experiences, lessons, innovations and promising practices emerging from the implementation of the initiative in Anambra State, with the findings potentially contributing to improved approaches to health insurance coverage and service delivery.
