FirstPower Electricity Distribution Company Limited has on Sept.15 raised the alarm over the increasing vandalism of electricity infrastructure across Anambra State, saying the development is undermining efforts to improve power supply.
The company disclosed that 73 major cases of vandalism had been recorded across the state since January 2026, resulting in prolonged power outages and significant costs associated with the repair and replacement of damaged equipment.
FirstPower said the vandalism of electricity infrastructure affects the supply of power to homes, businesses and essential facilities, while also exposing perpetrators to the risk of serious injury or death.

The electricity distribution company urged traditional rulers, community leaders, residents and other stakeholders to take ownership of electricity infrastructure within their communities and promptly report suspicious activities around transformers, poles, cables and substations.
It also expressed support for the Anambra State Government’s move to strengthen penalties for electricity infrastructure vandalism and other related offences.
FirstPower said it would continue to collaborate with security agencies and communities to safeguard its network and ensure that anyone found involved in vandalism is prosecuted, irrespective of their status.
The company appealed to members of the public to report suspected cases of vandalism through its whistleblowing line, 08161652465, assuring informants of confidentiality.
