Despite early morning rain, residents of Ward 5 in Onitsha North LGA turned out in force for a political sensitization campaign and free medical screenings, organised by the Local Government’s Works and Health Supervisors, Hon. Nnamdi Melifonwu and Hon. Chike Nwanosike, respectively.

The event aimed to inform newly eligible voters; those who turned 18 since the last registration, lost PVC holders, and applicants seeking transfers about the upcoming INEC Continuous Voter Registration, which began on July 8, 2025.

Speaking to the crowd, Hon. Melifonwu stressed the power of the ballot: “Every eligible citizen must seize this chance to register. As voters, we choose who leads our state in the November 8 Governorship election.” His counterpart, Hon. Nwanosike, echoed the call, urging attendees, “Come out in your numbers, register, and fulfil your civic duty, your vote shapes Anambra’s future.”

Councillor Samuel Nnoyelum, reaffirmed the importance of participation, reminding constituents that voter registration is a legal right and the gateway to representation. APGA South East Youth Leader and Education Supervisor, Rt. Hon. Romanus Chinedu Eze, highlighted the exercise’s role in strengthening democracy at the local level.

A resident, Mr. Nonso Okeke praised the initiative: “The sensitization and free health checks show that our leaders care about our well‑being and our voices.” Medical personnel provided blood pressure, glucose, and basic health screenings, ensuring attendees left both informed and healthier.

With the INEC timetable set and registration under way, Ward 5’s successful turnout underscores a renewed commitment to electoral participation and community health in Onitsha North.
