The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has extended the registration deadline for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for Private Candidates, Second Series, popularly known as the WAEC GCE.
Under the extension, prospective candidates now have until Aug. 28, to complete their registration, following the earlier deadline of July 31.
The examination is scheduled to hold between September and October 2026. Candidates are advised to complete their registration early to avoid last minute challenges, ensuring that all required information is accurately provided.
WAEC has advised candidates to confirm available examination towns, registration requirements and other relevant details through its approved registration channels or at the nearest WAEC office.
The extension applies specifically to the 2026 WASSCE for Private Candidates, Second Series and should not be confused with the WASSCE examination for school candidates.
Candidates are encouraged to verify the registration deadline and other details directly through WAEC’s official registration platform, particularly as dates displayed on some online platforms may differ.
Those yet to register are therefore advised to take advantage of the extension, use only approved WAEC channels, and carefully confirm their personal information and selected subjects before submitting their applications.
The new deadline provides candidates with additional time to complete their registration, but early action is encouraged to avoid unnecessary difficulties as the closing date approaches.
