The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the safe release of Chief Joseph J. Ezeokafor and a Rev. Sister who were abducted by armed criminals at Ifite-Awka. The victims, who were abducted earlier, regained their freedom and safely returned on August 15.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement on August 15, saying the command had commenced necessary steps to establish the circumstances surrounding their release.
He added that the police were also working to obtain relevant information that could assist ongoing investigations and lead to the identification and arrest of the perpetrators.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, while expressing relief over the safe return of the victims, directed intensified intelligence-led operations and a manhunt for those responsible for the abduction.
The operation involves the Police, Department of State Services (DSS), Military, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Agunechemba Security Operatives and other relevant security agencies.
The command appreciated members of the public for their continued support and cooperation, urging residents to remain vigilant and provide credible and timely information that could assist security agencies in apprehending the perpetrators.
