Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has recorded another significant milestone in research and innovation, emerging as the fourth-best-performing university in Nigeria in the 2025 National Research Fund (NRF) TETFund Grant cycle.
The university earned national recognition after producing seven successful grant recipients out of the 174 researchers selected across the country.

The awardees were received by the Vice-Chancellor, Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, on July 1 during a courtesy visit following the successful defence of their research proposals in Abuja.

Presenting the researchers, the Director of Research and Innovation, Azubike Ekpunobi, disclosed that the institution placed fourth nationally, with individual grant awards ranging from N25 million to N39 million.

He described the accomplishment as a testament to the university’s expanding research capacity and unwavering commitment to academic excellence, innovation and impactful scholarship.
The beneficiaries are Ikwuka Obiageli, Kingsley Nwosu, Maryjane Iloameke, Chilota Efobi, Uchechukwu Dimkpa, Obidiebube Adaobi and Nkem Okoye.

Congratulating the awardees, Prof. Anyaehie described the achievement as a landmark for the university and urged the researchers to implement their projects diligently while adhering strictly to the guidelines governing the grant.

The latest success further reinforces UNIZIK’s standing as one of Nigeria’s leading universities in research, innovation and competitive grant acquisition.
