The Faculty of Nursing Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), has commended the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, for his support towards the establishment and development of the Faculty.
The Acting Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Florence Sibeudu, led members of the Faculty Management Team and Heads of Departments on an appreciation visit to the vice-chancellor on Aug. 24, during which they also discussed preparations for the forthcoming accreditation exercise by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN), scheduled for September.
Prof. Sibeudu recalled that efforts to establish the Faculty had been ongoing for several years before receiving significant attention under the leadership of Prof. Anyaehie. She explained that relevant memoranda were retrieved and processed, paving the way for the establishment of the Faculty within a relatively short period.
The Acting Dean expressed appreciation to the vice-chancellor for his commitment to the actualisation of the Faculty, noting that preparations for the NMCN accreditation were already in top gear. She however, highlighted some outstanding needs, including a dedicated faculty building, office furniture, buses and a Computer-Based Test (CBT) Centre, which she said would enhance the faculty’s preparedness for the accreditation exercise.
Responding, Prof. Anyaehie assured the delegation of the university management’s continued support to enable the Faculty to meet the necessary accreditation requirements. The VC disclosed that provision had already been made for a bus for the Faculty, while urging its management to judiciously utilise available resources and prioritise the most critical needs ahead of the accreditation.
He expressed confidence that the remaining requirements would be addressed progressively, assuring that efforts would continue towards providing the necessary facilities. On the proposed CBT Centre, Prof. Anyaehie directed the Faculty to identify a suitable location, assuring that the University would work towards developing the facility to meet the Faculty’s examination needs.
