The Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has secured a landslide victory in the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) primary election for the Ogbaru II State Constituency seat.
The primary election was conducted peacefully across the ten electoral wards in Ogbaru II Constituency, Ogbaru Local Government Area, with a large turnout of party faithful and supporters. Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) monitored the exercise.
Announcing the results, the Returning Officer, Barrister Barnabas Kenere disclosed that Udeze polled 7,187 votes to defeat his opponent, Mr. Enebeli Afamefuna, who scored 168 votes.
Kenere subsequently declared Udeze the duly elected APGA candidate for the Ogbaru II Constituency seat, having secured the highest number of valid votes cast in the primary election.
Reacting to the victory, Speaker Udeze expressed gratitude to APGA members and supporters across the constituency for the confidence reposed in him.
He assured the people that he would remain committed to sustaining peace, unity, and development in Ogbaru II, while continuing to champion policies and programmes aimed at improving the welfare and living standards of the people.
Udeze pledged not to take the overwhelming mandate for granted, promising to strengthen his representation and deliver more people-oriented projects across the constituency.
Political observers described the outcome of the primary election as a reflection of the growing support and acceptance enjoyed by the Speaker among stakeholders and residents of Ogbaru II, many of whom have commended his leadership style and developmental initiatives in the area.
