TELEMEDICINE MEDICAL OFFICERS FAMILIARISE WITH NEW ASPHCDA EXECUTIVE SECRETARY

Telemedicine – an innovation of Technology and Medicine, introduced into Anambra Healthcare system by the Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration to aid bridge the gap and make quality healthcare services accessible and available to people at the grassroots.

On May 6, 2026, the Executive of Telemedicine Association comprising of Senior Medical Officers, in Anambra State carried out a familiarisation visit to the Office of the Executive Secretary, Anambra State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (ASPHCDA).

The visit was held at the ASPHCDA Office complex, Awka. It was used by the team, to congratulate the new Executive Secretary, ASPHCDA, Dr Obianuju Chinelo Okoye on her appointment as ES/CEO ASPHCDA by Anambra Governor, Prof. Soludo on April 23, 2026.

The Association, also, leveraged on the familiarisation visit to bring to knowledge of the Executive Secretary issues currently experienced in the Telemedicine system. Some of which were unavailability of data and network Inadequacies.

Leading the team, Chairman of the Association and Senior Medical Officer, Ayamelum Local Government Area (LGA), Dr Uchenna Okafor noted that purpose of the visit was to congratulate the Executive Secretary, relay their issues and commend her on an impactful few weeks in office.

He said that the Association strongly believes in ability of Dr Okoye to deliver selfless, effective and efficient service to further strengthen Primary Healthcare system in ensuring quality of care at the grassroots.

The Association Financial Secretary and Senior Medical Officer, Njikoka LGA, Dr Chinonso Nwosu enlightened the Executive Secretary on some Inadequate practices at the PHCs. He urged the ASPHCDA Boss to further look into the malpractices to ensure that healthcare workers were properly and appropriately guided in discharge of their duties.

Responding, the Executive Secretary assured that the Agency would look into the issues presented and ensure they are resolved and rectified. She thanked the Association for the visit, assuring that with inclusion of Health fellows and the Telemedicine Senior Medical Officers, the Agency would ensure that services rendered at the PHCs were optimised.

Other members of visiting Association includes; the Vice Chairperson and Senior Medical Officer, Orumba North LGA- Dr Miracle Onyeyirichi, the PRO and Senior Medical Officer, Anambra East LGA- Dr Collins Chukwu together with a Member and Senior Medical Officer, Ihiala LGA- Dr Chinwendu Okolue.
