Team Anambra has retained its position as the overall best team in the Nigerian Taekwondo national rankings following its performance at the National Taekwondo Championship in Lagos.
The championship, held from Aug. 2 to Aug. 8, featured athletes from across the country, with the Anambra contingent recording strong performances in the competition.
Reacting to the achievement, the Anambra Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Mr Patrick Agha Mba, commended the athletes and coaching crew for sustaining the state’s strong showing in taekwondo.
Agha Mba said retaining the number one position reflected the team’s commitment to rigorous training, resilience and competitive discipline.
He attributed the achievement partly to the sports development agenda of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration, particularly its focus on sports infrastructure, talent development and youth empowerment.
The commissioner said the government would continue to provide opportunities for young athletes to discover, develop and showcase their talents at national and international competitions.
He urged the athletes and coaches to sustain their commitment to training and maintain the standard achieved in future competitions.
The commissioner also assured that the state would continue to support initiatives aimed at identifying and nurturing sporting talents among young people.
The latest result further strengthens Team Anambra’s standing in Nigerian taekwondo and provides encouragement for emerging athletes across the state’s 21 local government areas.
