The Anambra State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the ongoing regeneration drive and restoration of sanity across the state through enforcement exercises and demolition of illegal structures statewide.
The exercise was led by the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Barrister Chijioke Ojukwu, on July 8, in line with the Physical Planning Law of Anambra State.
Stating that it is no longer business as usual, the commissioner urged residents to take every notice received from the ministry seriously and comply promptly with planning regulations henceforth.
He, however, said several eviction notices had been served but were taken with a pinch of salt, adding that demolitions followed because structures defaced the environment or obstructed pedestrian walkways.
In Nnewi, a building erected on a drainage channel was demolished, while several shanties along Traffic Light and Nkwo Triangle were also removed during the enforcement operation .
On Ugwuoye Ozubulu, several shanties defacing the Joint Hospital were demolished, marking a clear indication that the government remains committed to restoring order and enforcing planning standards across the state.
