The State Hospital Administrator, Dr. Frank Ifeanaeme, has advised newly recruited doctors and other health professionals to always protect themselves while attending to patients.
In an interview in Enugwu-Ukwu, he emphasized the need for protecting themselves and patients from infectious diseases, needlestick injuries, and physical harm.
He also advised them to protect patients by preventing transmission of infections, ensuring accurate diagnoses, and providing effective treatment.
Dr Ifeaneme reminded them to reduce risks of misdiagnosis, medication errors, and surgical complications, noting that such mistakes are costly and might result in complications or death.
“Make use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), hand hygiene, sterilization and disinfection, safe injection practices, accurate patient identification, and effective communication.
“This government has employed more professional staff in the health sector to make sure that everyone is attended to and you are going to do your best to see that patients receive the best treatment.
“The environment is very conducive for you to perform very well and be rest assured that quality training will be provided for you to improve on your performance,” Dr Ifeanaeme said.
He urged them to provide quality patient care, maintain accurate records and work hand in hands with colleagues while also advisin them to adhere to infection control protocols and familiarize with hospital policies and procedures.
These measures he said would ensure patient safety, reduce healthcare associated infections, and promote quality care.
