St. Michael’s Model Comprehensive Secondary School Nimo, Njikoka Local Government Area has achieved a significant academic milestone following an outstanding performance at the 2026 National Mathematics Festival Competition. The remarkable feat was recorded by Akpu Goodness Chidera, an SS3 student of the institution, whose brilliance and determination earned him recognition among the best young mathematicians in Nigeria.
In a highly competitive contest that brought together thousands of students from across the federation, including participants from federal government colleges, unity schools, and leading private institutions, Akpu distinguished himself with exceptional results. He secured 1st position in Anambra State, 2nd position in the South-East geopolitical zone, and an impressive 3rd place at the national level.

The achievement has been widely celebrated within and beyond the school community as a testament to the institution’s strong commitment to academic excellence. Education stakeholders have described the performance as a clear indication that quality teaching, discipline, and consistent academic engagement can produce top-tier results regardless of location.
Commendations have poured in for the school’s Mathematics Department, whose dedication, structured coaching, and innovative teaching strategies played a crucial role in preparing the student for the competition. Their emphasis on critical thinking and deep conceptual understanding has been identified as a key factor in the success recorded.

The school’s management also attributed the achievement to the purposeful and visionary leadership of the Principal/Manager, Rev. Fr. Denis Nwabueze. His administration has continued to prioritize academic distinction, teacher motivation, and student development, creating an enabling environment for excellence to thrive.
Members of the Nimo community and the wider Anambra State have expressed pride in the accomplishment, describing it as a moment of honour and inspiration for young learners across the region.
