A heartwarming story of love, kindness, and community spirit unfolded on Valentine’s Day in Ezimezi, Amawbia, Awka South LGA, where a 2-bedroom apartment was gifted to an indigent widow, Mrs. Victoria Ngozi Okoye by St. Matthew’s Catholic Church Amawbia family.

The Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Donatus Oragwam, in a touching ceremony, handed over the keys to the humble abode, built through the collective efforts of the parishioners, to Mrs. Okoye, describing it as a symbol of God’s love and their commitment to serving the vulnerable.

He noted that his predecessor, Rev. Fr. Michael Onwukike started the project before he was transferred to another parish.

Overwhelmed with gratitude, Mrs. Okoye thanked the parish family for their kindness, saying, “This gift is a blessing from God, and I’m so thankful to our parish family for their kindness. This house represents hope, love, and a fresh start for me and my family”.

The beneficiary’s loved ones expressed deep gratitude to the church for this generous act, highlighting the impact of collective efforts in improving lives.

Mr. Bela Okonkwo, the Zonal leader of Mrs Okoye, commended the parish priest and parishioners for their generosity, saying, “This gift is a testament to the power of community and our commitment to serving the vulnerable. I’m proud of each of you for coming together to make a difference in this sister’s life”.

The flat comes with amenities such as tiled toilet/bathroom, kitchen, and soakaway pit.

The event was a shining example of the true spirit of Valentine’s Day, celebrating love, kindness, and community, and a reminder that small acts of kindness can bring immense joy and hope to those in need. It also reflects the church’s mission to serve and uplift its community.

Attendees wined and dined in the spirit of Valentine’s day celebration.
