Information officers have been charged to display expertise in information management by giving timely and accurate news to the public.
The Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor said this at a One- Day Capacity Building Workshop on Digital/Social Media organised for information officers at Situation room of the Ministry, Awka.
Dr. Mefor said that for the information officers to be relevant in information dissemination, they should defile all odds to be modern day reporters to beat the social media standard.

“You must be active to embrace a digital media and shun analogue so that you will be a modern day reporter.”
He urged the participants to continue to hunt and write reports, adding that they will only get improved through persistent writing.
He praised the Capital Development Approach of the Permanent Secretary of the ministry which prompted the capacity building training, describing it as the best.
He said that information officers must keep practising daily in writing, showing up everyday and keep pushing to make name for themselves.
The Supervising Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Pharm. Dr. Oby Uchebo urged the participants to be bombarding the public with reports in their localities.

Dr. Uchebo frowned at information officers at the LGA’ s who do not communicate to the public daily and urged them to sit up with their responsibilities.
She tasked them to always display their roles with high level of commitment to achieve improved service delivery and enhance production.
Dr. Uchebo urged information officers to make use of Dr. Mefor’s mentorship by always writing to be relevant and visible in the society, saying that by so doing, the governor will be proud of information officers in the state.
Also, the Acting Director of Information Department of the Ministry, Mr. Emmanuel .U. Emmanuel commended the commissioner and rhe permanent secretary for putting resources and manpower together to organize the training.
The Facilitators of the training, comprising of Mr. Joseph Obunse, Dr. Mrs. Chinwe Chuka, Ms Uche Igboeli, Mrs. Obianuju Umeh equipped the participants with the necessary information they need to thrive in their social media handles as information officers.
Some of the participants of the training excercise commended the ministry for organising such a well- loaded Capacity Building Training while expressing confident that they will utilise the wealth of knowledge gained from the training to improve their job capacity.
The highpoints of the programme were conducting of pre-test and post-test.
