Spain have been crowned champions of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after defeating defending champions Argentina 1-0 in a tense and dramatic final played on July 19, at the New York/New Jersey Stadium in East Rutherford, United States.

The fiercely contested encounter remained goalless throughout regulation time as both sides produced disciplined defensive displays and created limited clear-cut opportunities in a tactical battle worthy of football’s biggest stage.

Spain eventually broke the deadlock in the 106th minute of extra time when substitute Ferran Torres calmly converted the decisive goal, sparking wild celebrations among the Spanish players and supporters.

Argentina’s hopes of forcing a comeback suffered a major setback after midfielder Enzo Fernández was sent off late in regulation time, leaving the South Americans to play the entirety of extra time with ten men.

Despite a spirited effort led by captain Lionel Messi, Argentina were unable to find an equaliser as Spain’s organised defence stood firm to preserve the slender advantage until the final whistle.

The triumph marks Spain’s second FIFA World Cup title, their first since lifting the trophy in South Africa in 2010, reaffirming their status among world football’s elite nations.

The victory also capped an impressive tournament for Spain, who combined defensive solidity with attacking quality to overcome a series of formidable opponents on their way to football’s ultimate prize.
