The administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo has continued to intensify efforts aimed at reducing hunger and improving food security in Anambra State through various agricultural and farmer-support programmes.

Central to the administration’s strategy is the “Farm to Feed” campaign, designed to encourage increased farming activities across the state, particularly among youths and women. The initiative seeks to boost food production, improve rural livelihoods, and reduce dependence on imported food items.

As part of the programme, the state government has distributed palm, coconut, and other economic tree seedlings to households and farmers under a long-term agricultural expansion initiative. Governor Soludo said the programme targets the planting of millions of seedlings to enhance food production and create sustainable sources of income for residents.

The administration has also provided support to smallholder farmers through fertilizer distribution, irrigation projects, and agricultural empowerment schemes. Among the interventions highlighted are the ATASP-1 irrigation project and IFAD-supported programmes focused on improving farmers’ productivity and access to modern agricultural practices.

In addition, the wife of the governor, Mrs. Nonye Soludo has championed campaigns promoting backyard and home gardening as part of efforts to encourage food sufficiency at the household level. The initiative included the distribution of hybrid seed packs and sensitization programmes urging families to cultivate vegetables and other crops within their homes.

Farmers across different agricultural value chains have equally benefited from training and empowerment programmes in fish farming, poultry, piggery, and vegetable cultivation aimed at improving food availability and increasing household income.

Beyond direct agricultural interventions, the Soludo administration maintains that ongoing investments in road infrastructure, security, healthcare, and education are contributing to hunger reduction by stimulating economic activities and improving the welfare of residents.

Observers say the combined initiatives reflect the administration’s broader approach to addressing food security challenges and strengthening agricultural development in the state.
