The ‎Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, on June 23 visited the scene of the recent flood disaster in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area, where he reassured residents of his administration’s unwavering commitment to addressing the recurring challenges of flooding and gully erosion across the state.
‎
‎Following the visit, the governor took to his official Facebook page to express concern over the devastating impact of the flood on affected residents and communities. He reiterated his government’s resolve to pursue lasting and sustainable solutions to environmental problems threatening various parts of Anambra State.
‎

‎During the inspection, Prof. Soludo sympathized with families and individuals affected by the disaster, describing the incident as a natural occurrence that highlights the urgent need for continuous environmental management and infrastructure development.
‎
‎The Governor noted that flooding and gully erosion remain among the greatest environmental threats confronting the state, stressing that his administration has identified them as priority areas requiring sustained intervention.
‎

‎According to him, many of the environmental challenges currently facing Anambra stem from decades of poor drainage planning, unregulated urban expansion, and infrastructure projects executed without adequate water discharge systems.
‎
‎He emphasized that addressing the problems would require significant financial investment and long-term commitment, noting that issues that developed over several decades cannot be resolved within a short period.
‎
‎Prof. Soludo further assured residents that several ongoing and proposed environmental remediation projects across the state are aimed at reducing flooding, safeguarding communities, and protecting critical infrastructure.
‎
‎He extended his heartfelt sympathy to victims of the Ogidi flood disaster, describing the incident as an unfortunate force of nature, while reaffirming his administration’s determination to build a safer, more resilient, and environmentally sustainable Anambra State.
‎
‎The visit forms part of the state government’s broader response to environmental emergencies and ongoing efforts to combat flooding, erosion, and other climate-related challenges affecting communities across Anambra.
