The Anambra State Government has commenced the clearance of the right of way for the 132kV electricity transmission line project in Umuogbo-Obiofia, Nnewichi, Nnewi North Local Government Area, in a renewed effort to improve electricity supply in the area.
The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Barr. Chijioke Ojukwu, alongside the Commissioner Ministry of Power, Engr. Casmir Agummadu, led a joint inspection of the project site on July 10.
The transmission line project, which had remained stalled for years, is expected to strengthen power supply to Nnewichi and neighbouring communities when completed.
Speaking during the inspection, Ojukwu said the state government had begun identifying and marking structures encroaching on the designated right of way to facilitate the execution of the project.
He said the Soludo administration remained committed to enforcing physical planning regulations to ensure that critical infrastructure projects were not hindered by illegal developments.
According to him, the government will not allow encroachments to delay a project designed to improve electricity supply and stimulate economic growth in the state.
Ojukwu said the completion of the 132kV transmission line would boost electricity supply to Nnewichi and surrounding communities, support industrial and commercial activities, and improve residents’ quality of life through more reliable power.
He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to delivering critical infrastructure and improving the living standards of Anambra residents under the Soludo administration.
