‎Governor Chukwuma Soludo and other dignitaries on June 14 joined business leader, Dr. Emeka Okonkwo, popularly known as E-Money, and other stakeholders for the commissioning of a 150-standard tennis pavilion and a 50-metre one-storey Heineken Bar at Onitsha Country Club, Fegge.

‎The event attracted prominent personalities, including All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Senatorial Candidate, Dr. Stella Oduah; Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze; former Ohanaeze Ndigbo Anambra State Chairman, Chief Chukwuemekalum Udodeme; Onitsha South Constituency member, Hon. Fred Ezenwa; and Chairman of Onitsha South Local Government Area, Hon. Emeka Orji.

‎Representing Governor Soludo, the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Dr. Patrick Agha Mba, said the administration is committed to transforming sports from a recreational activity into a platform for capacity building, empowerment, and economic development.

‎Dr. Agha Mba described the newly commissioned facilities as a reflection of the state government’s vision for human capital development and the growth of the sports economy. He commended the leadership of Onitsha Country Club for investing in infrastructure that promotes youth development, healthy living, and social interaction.

‎Speaking at the occasion, Dr. Emeka Okonkwo, popularly known as E-Money, approved the organization of a tennis tournament by the club’s chairman, Chief Anietonwa Kingsley, with a cash prize and a car reward for the winner. He described the project as remarkable and praised the club’s committee for its dedication and commitment to advancing sports development.

‎The Chairman of the occasion, Chief Ndubuisi Anekwe, described the project as a testament to progress, vision, and determination. He encouraged parents to enroll their children in tennis programmes early enough to enable the discovery and nurturing of future talents.
‎
‎Also, Chairman of the Country Club, Chief Anietonwa Kingsley, stated that the newly constructed pavilion, which accommodates tournaments across four courts, has positioned the club to host national competitions. He appreciated the guests for their support and reaffirmed the club’s commitment to promoting tennis in the region.
‎
‎Highlights of the event included award presentations, the induction of new members, and the inauguration of a tennis academy. Organizers said the initiatives were designed to expand access to the sport and create opportunities for the development of young talents in Onitsha and neighbouring communities.
