The Sahelian Institute for Bamboo Research and Entrepreneurship Development (SIBRED) on Sept. 4 paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Prof. Bond Stanley Anyaehie, to explore areas of collaboration in bamboo research, innovation, entrepreneurship and sustainable development.
The engagement provided an avenue for both institutions to discuss opportunities for strengthening research initiatives and promoting the sustainable utilisation of bamboo resources.

The growing interest in bamboo research underscores the plant’s potential as a versatile resource capable of contributing to environmental sustainability, technological innovation and economic development. Discussions during the visit focused on ways to advance research and develop innovative solutions that could harness bamboo’s potential across various sectors.
The proposed collaboration also offers opportunities for entrepreneurship development through knowledge-driven initiatives capable of supporting sustainable businesses, creating employment and empowering young people. For UNIZIK, partnerships of this nature reinforce the university’s commitment to expanding research collaborations and providing platforms for applying academic knowledge to practical societal challenges.
The engagement further emphasised the need for stronger institutional partnerships to promote sustainable resource management, innovation and research-based solutions to Nigeria’s emerging developmental challenges.

As SIBRED and UNIZIK continue to explore areas of mutual interest, the visit is expected to lay the foundation for deeper collaboration, with bamboo research and entrepreneurship serving as potential drivers of sustainable economic and environmental development.
