Troops of Operation UDO GA ACHI have rescued three kidnap victims and recovered weapons and other items during a security operation in Anambra State on Oct 2.
The victims were rescued around the Osakwa General Area of Ihiala by troops of the 185 Battalion, working alongside local vigilantes in an operation targeting suspected kidnappers.
During the operation, the troops arrested a suspected member of the group. Information reportedly obtained during the investigation subsequently led security operatives to a suspected hideout at Abator in Ogbaru Local Government Area.
Troops moved into the area through the waterways and encountered suspected criminals at the location. The suspects reportedly fled into the surrounding area during the encounter.
The military said several weapons and ammunition were recovered from the abandoned camp, including two AK-47 rifles, three pump-action guns and three locally manufactured firearms.
More than 200 rounds of ammunition and cartridges were also recovered, alongside materials suspected to be associated with the manufacture of improvised explosive devices.
Other items found at the location included mobile phones, solar panels, batteries, a solar generator and a power bank, according to the military.
The Army said efforts were ongoing to track down the suspects who escaped from the camp and apprehend other individuals allegedly linked to the group’s activities.
The operation is part of ongoing security efforts by troops and local security partners to disrupt kidnapping and other criminal activities in communities across Anambra State and the wider South-East.
