A rural farmer, Nze Anthony Nsofor, has expressed worries over security disturbances within Middle Belt region of Nigeria describing it as pending food shortage.

He said this while interacting with information officers, at Agbelu Village, Akpo, in Aguata LGA, on May 7.

Nsofor said, “Benue and its adjoining States are food baskets of Nigeria.
A situation where farmers in this region can no longer access their homes, not to talk about accessing their farms, spells danger.

“We need to proact, if we must live to tell stories of this ugly trend. The way out is to go to farm. Everyone of us in this Southern part of this country ought to own a farm to sustain at least immediate family.

“It does not matter if you have land or not, what matters is that you are interested in farming. There are crops that can be grown in bags, vessels, even in the rooms.Domestic animal rearing for meat is also important.

“We are fast approaching General Election, insecurity surge is already with us. We need to act fast to having food for ourselves.”

Nsofor enjoined government at all levels to work directly with peasant farmers to providing farm implements, high yielding crops, fertilizers, to boosting food production.

“The idea of working with political farmers is a failure and should be discontinued.”
