The Head of Service of Anambra State, Chief Barr. (Mrs.) Ngozi Anuli Iwouno, mni, has called on members of the Queen’s School Enugu Old Girls Association (QSEOGA) to invest more in girls’ education, school development and mentorship.

Iwouno made the call while delivering the keynote address at the association’s 2026 National Convention and Annual General Meeting, held from October 16 to 18 at Chyben Hotel, Awka.

The convention, hosted by the Awka and Onitsha branches, had the theme, “Queen’s School Enugu: Inspiring Girls for Excellence, Leadership and Impact Across Generations.” Iyom Josephine Anenih chaired the event, which attracted dignitaries, including the Permanent Secretary, Anambra State Ministry of Information and Value Reformation, Dr. Obiageli Uchebo.

The Head of Service urged members to uphold their alma mater’s legacy through discipline, integrity, hard work, purposeful leadership and service. She emphasised scholarships, mentorship, improved facilities, science education and digital skills as vital to preparing girls for future leadership roles.

She challenged the association to translate its achievements into practical interventions, including school renovation and support for disadvantaged girls, noting that its legacy would be measured by the lives transformed through its efforts.

Earlier, the National President of QSEOGA, Dr. Anne Njoku Amigo, ADG (mni, fsi), appreciated members for their contributions to the association’s growth and the development of their alma mater. She highlighted achievements, including a national database to strengthen membership engagement, mentorship, networking and strategic planning.

Other initiatives included skills acquisition programmes, training in soap and puff-puff production, webinars on online marketing and urban agriculture, and the development of the association’s website and social media platforms. The association also conducted cancer-prevention awareness programmes, introduced virtual participation at its AGM and reinstated its Prize Giving Day to reward academic and non-academic excellence.

Dr. Amigo disclosed that the proposed renovation of Mungo Park House hostel had been stalled by the non-approval of funds. She also announced a constitutional review to strengthen governance and highlighted the need for a comprehensive assessment of the school’s needs and a proposed whole-school renovation project.

Branches represented at the convention included Aba, Onitsha, Abuja, Calabar, Enugu, Lagos, Owerri, Port Harcourt and Umuahia. Dr. Amigo commended the Awka and Onitsha branches for hosting the event and urged members to sustain unity, sisterhood and cooperation while supporting the incoming national executive.

The convention provided an opportunity for members to review their achievements, strengthen relationships and renew their commitment to school development, girls’ empowerment and inspiring future generations of Queen’s School Enugu students.
