The Mayor of Awka South Local Government Area, Prince Chinedu Okafor, on August 12th 2026 has celebrated the youth of the council area, describing them as the driving force behind community development and the hope of a prosperous future.
Prince Okafor stated this in a special message to commemorate International Youth Day, where he warmly celebrated young people across Awka South for their resilience, creativity, hard work and commitment to contributing positively to their communities.
According to the Mayor, the energy, talents and innovative ideas demonstrated by young people remain essential to building a stronger and more prosperous Awka South where every young person has the opportunity to thrive and achieve meaningful success.
He expressed pride in the contributions of the youth to the growth and development of the council area, noting that their determination and willingness to make a difference continue to inspire efforts towards creating a better future for the people.
Prince Okafor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting youth development, empowerment and inclusion, stressing that young people must be given opportunities to participate meaningfully in governance and community development.
He further assured the youth that his administration would continue to pursue initiatives capable of creating opportunities for them to develop their skills, pursue their aspirations and contribute effectively to the economic and social advancement of Awka South.
The Mayor also commended the youth-friendly leadership of the Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR, for prioritising programmes and policies aimed at creating opportunities and empowering young people across the state.
He said that with continued collaboration between the government and young people, Awka South could build a future where youths are equipped, included and encouraged to turn their dreams and ideas into meaningful achievements.
Prince Okafor urged the youth to remain focused, hardworking, disciplined and hopeful, reminding them that the future of Awka South and the nation depends significantly on their ability to embrace opportunities and contribute positively to society.
He called on young people to continue believing in themselves, developing their talents and using their creativity and energy to promote peace, development and progress within their communities.
The Mayor, while congratulating the youth on International Youth Day, assured them that his administration would remain committed to creating an environment where young people can realise their potential and become valuable contributors to the development of Awka South.
Prince Chinedu Okafor wished all young people in Awka South a happy International Youth Day, reiterating that together, government and the youth can build a greater, stronger and more prosperous Awka South.
