The Parish Priest, St. Jude’s Catholic Church, Awka, Rev. Fr. Innocent Mmuomegha, has urged parents to place greater emphasis on the moral and spiritual development of their children by nurturing them with Christian values.
Speaking during his homily on June 21, Fr. Mmuomegha stressed the need for parents to closely monitor their children’s activities and the company they keep, warning that negative peer influence often leads young people into harmful behaviors.
He expressed concern that many youths are drawn into immoral practices through bad associations and encouraged parents to take an active role in guiding their children toward positive friendships and responsible conduct.
The cleric also underscored the importance of regular family prayer and Bible study, noting that homes founded on God’s word are better prepared to withstand societal challenges and pressures. He urged families to make prayer a consistent part of their daily lives.
Fr. Mmuomegha further stated that the relationship between spouses significantly influences the character formation of children. According to him, a marriage built on love, respect and mutual support provides a worthy example for children to follow.
He reminded the congregation that obedience to God’s commandments attracts the presence and guidance of the Holy Spirit within the family, fostering peace and unity.
The priest also advised couples to remain faithful and supportive of one another, emphasizing that children often learn values, manners and attitudes by observing the behavior of their parents.
