The Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Anambra State Chapter, has presented its welfare and empowerment scorecard to the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, highlighting its interventions aimed at improving the wellbeing of police families in the state. The association made the presentation on Sept. 11, during a courtesy visit to the commissioner at the Anambra State Police Command.
According to the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Acting Chairperson of POWA Anambra, Dr. (Mrs.) Eno Chongs Mantu, disclosed that 79 children of fallen police officers are currently benefiting from the association’s scholarship programme.

She further revealed that 179 members of the association had received empowerment items and support packages designed to improve their livelihoods, while another 135 members had benefited from various targeted welfare interventions.
Receiving the delegation, CP Oji Ama commended the Acting Chairperson and members of POWA Anambra for their continued dedication to improving the welfare and resilience of police families, especially widows, children of deceased officers and other vulnerable dependants.

The commissioner described the interventions as important to police welfare and institutional effectiveness, noting that adequate support for police families contributes to improved morale, commitment and psychological resilience among police personnel.
CP Oji Ama particularly praised POWA for maintaining educational support for children of fallen officers, stressing that the sacrifice made by personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty should not deprive their families of opportunities for a better future.
He also noted that the association’s empowerment initiatives go beyond providing temporary assistance, as they encourage self-reliance, economic stability and dignity among beneficiaries while reducing vulnerability within the police community.

The commissioner assured POWA Anambra of the command’s continued partnership and support, urging the association to sustain and expand programmes capable of producing direct and measurable improvements in the lives of police families.
He reiterated that police welfare should be regarded not only as a humanitarian responsibility but also as a strategic element of effective policing, stressing that a motivated and well-supported workforce would be better equipped to protect lives and property, respond to emerging security challenges and provide professional services to the public.
The visit also featured the presentation of a gift item to the Commissioner of Police by the POWA delegation.
