‎The Anambra State Police Command has recorded another operational success following the recovery of two fabricated pistols and three caps bearing an inscription associated with the Vikings Confraternity during a routine patrol operation in Awka North Local Government Area.
‎
‎In a press release signed by the Anambra Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the recovery was made on August 13, by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) while conducting patrols along the Isuaniocha Bridge.
‎
‎According to the statement, the operatives sighted two young men riding a black Sanyang motorcycle without a registration number. On noticing the presence of the police team, the riders allegedly made a sudden and reckless turn in an apparent attempt to evade the operatives, prompting the officers to give chase.
‎
‎During the pursuit, the suspects reportedly fell from the motorcycle and abandoned it, along with two slippers and a bag, before escaping into a nearby bush. A subsequent search of the abandoned bag led to the recovery of two locally fabricated pistols and three caps bearing an inscription associated with the Vikings Confraternity.
‎
‎The Police Command said efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and establish their identities, affiliations and the circumstances surrounding their possession of the recovered firearms and other items.
‎
‎The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, commended the operatives for their vigilance and directed that efforts be intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspects reiterating the command’s commitment to sustained patrols, intelligence-led operations and proactive policing measures aimed at disrupting criminal activities and safeguarding the lives and property of residents across the state.
