The Anambra State Police Command has on August 14 intensified its operations against criminal activities across the State, leading to the arrest of seven suspects and the recovery of an Army uniform, expended ammunition shells and substances suspected to be illicit drugs.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement, saying the operations were carried out on August 13, as part of the command’s sustained efforts to combat violent crimes, cultism and illicit drug activities.
According to him, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), acting on credible intelligence, arrested a 65-year-old man, Ifeanyi Ogbuagbo, in Umudioka on the evening of the day under review. A search of the suspect’s residence reportedly led to the recovery of an Army uniform and expended ammunition shells concealed in a black polythene bag.

SP Ikenga said preliminary information indicated that Ogbuagbo was allegedly linked to a criminal gang reportedly agitating for self-government. He added that the suspect had been taken into custody for investigation, while police operatives were working to establish the circumstances surrounding the recovered items and his alleged activities.
In a separate operation the same evening, police operatives acting on credible intelligence raided a suspected criminal hideout in Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area. The operation resulted in the arrest of six suspects identified as Chisom Okafor, 25; Onyedika Moses, 36; Iruka Nwaonu, 30; Joseph Nwankwo, 36; Chukwujekwu Nwoso, 32; and Akanimo Orok, 40. The operatives also recovered a sizeable quantity of dried weeds suspected to be Cannabis Sativa and other substances suspected to be illicit drugs.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing, strategic patrols and coordinated raids aimed at dismantling criminal networks, disrupting illicit drug activities and denying criminals safe havens across the State.
CP Oji Ama further directed that the ongoing raids on criminal hideouts, drug-selling points and other identified areas of criminal activity be intensified and sustained. He assured residents that the command would continue to take proactive measures to strengthen security and protect lives and property across Anambra State.
