‎The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the brutal murder of three members of the same family, whose bodies were found buried in a shallow grave in Ukpor, Nnewi South Local Government Area.
‎
‎In a statement released in Awka, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed that operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, carried out the arrests on May 3, 2026, following a detailed investigation prompted by reports of the victims’ sudden disappearance. The suspects, identified as Emmanuel Nnabueze Nnakezie, 33, and Clement Nnaekezie, 69, were apprehended in separate locations Oba and Ukpor after police acted on credible intelligence.
‎
‎According to the police, the suspects confessed during interrogation and subsequently led operatives to the burial site. The victims were identified as Robert Nnakezie, 67, Ikechukwu Obi, 14, and two-year-old Ukamaka Efione, who was said to be visiting the family during the school holidays. Their remains have since been exhumed and deposited in a morgue for autopsy.
‎
‎Investigations suggested that the killings may have arisen from a disagreement over the ownership rights to a bitter kola tree and other properties inherited within the family.
‎
‎Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, condemned the act, describing it as barbaric and deeply disturbing. He assured residents that the command is committed to ensuring that justice is served and that all those involved are brought to book.
