The Executive Mayor of Onitsha South Local Government Area, Chief Emeka Orji and the Mayor-elect, Hon. Ikechukwu Peter Mofunanya, on Sept 10, led a delegation from the council area to welcome the First Lady of Nigeria, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, during her official visit to Anambra State.
The delegation joined Governor Chukwuma Soludo, his wife, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, traditional rulers, political leaders and other dignitaries at a reception held in honour of the First Lady at the Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka.

The visit featured interventions in human capital development, education, healthcare, nutrition and social welfare, including the commissioning of an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre at the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, in Orumba North Local Government Area. A major highlight was the announcement of a N500 million intervention for 5,000 beneficiaries, with each person receiving N100,000 under an initiative championed by the Anambra State First Lady, Mrs. Nonye Soludo.
Reacting, Orji and Mofunanya commended Sen. Tinubu for supporting programmes aimed at improving the welfare of vulnerable citizens, particularly women and families facing economic challenges. They said such interventions were most meaningful when they produced tangible improvements in the lives of ordinary citizens.

The Onitsha South leaders also applauded the establishment of Food Banks across the three senatorial districts of Anambra, describing the initiative as timely in addressing nutritional challenges among vulnerable families, pregnant women and young children.
They further commended the ICT Centre at the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, noting that providing young people with digital skills was essential for preparing them for opportunities in an increasingly technology-driven economy.
Governor Soludo, while appreciating the First Lady for visiting the state, stressed the importance of sustained collaboration between the Federal and State Governments in implementing programmes that have direct and meaningful impact on the people.
Orji and Mofunanya described the visit as more than a ceremonial reception, saying it provided an opportunity to strengthen cooperation among the three tiers of government and ensure that people-oriented programmes reach communities at the grassroots.
They reaffirmed their commitment to supporting initiatives that promote inclusive development, social welfare, youth empowerment and economic opportunities for residents of Onitsha South and Ndi Anambra, while expressing appreciation to Sen. Oluremi Tinubu for her visit and solidarity with the people of the state.
