The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Zone 13, Ukpo, Dunukofia Local Government Area, AIG Miller Gajere Dantawaye, on September 11, paid an operational visit to the Anambra State Police Command.
During the visit, Dantawaye reviewed the Command’s security architecture and ongoing operations, while commending personnel for the measurable progress recorded in tackling violent and organised crime across the state.
Dantawaye described the progress as encouraging and urged personnel to consolidate the gains through discipline, professionalism, effective supervision, courage, strict adherence to the law, public trust and respect for human rights.
On the handling of ongoing cases, the AIG cautioned senior officers against interference, particularly when cases had already been reported at police stations or divisions. He stressed the need for discipline and professionalism and warned that personnel found culpable would face appropriate sanctions.
On handling members of the public, the AIG urged officers to be civil, noting that it was their civic responsibility to treat the people whose taxes and contributions fund their salaries with respect. He, however, stressed that there would be no compromise on professionalism and discipline.
“We must address and treat the people we are being paid to protect with a high level of civility.
“We must show respect to members of the public at any given time. We must always try to do the right thing to maintain and sustain the integrity of the Force”
Charging the District Police Officers (DPO) to maintain clean environments at their duty posts, he said this was paramount for better working conditions.
“We must improve our level of neatness, because, you can only be addressed the way you are dressed while interfacing the public” he stated.
