The spirit of “Ọnwa Dezemba”—the festive mantra popularised by Governor Chukwuma Soludo to make December a season of joy and lasting memories for Ndi Anambra, came alive in grand style in Onitsha North Local Government Area as the Onitsha Old School Club held its highly successful maiden outing.
The historic event, which has continued to generate positive buzz across Anambra State, took place on December 29, and marked the formal emergence of the Onitsha Old School Club—a distinguished association of accomplished professionals aged 50 years and above.

Held at the elegant Isaac and Rose Suite, New Nkisi Road, GRA, Onitsha, the outing offered a delightful blend of Christmas cheer, New Year anticipation, nostalgia, and refined social bonding. Members and guests from diverse walks of life gathered in an atmosphere of warmth, dignity, and shared heritage.
A major highlight of the evening was the formal institution of the Club’s Patron and Patroness, Distinguished Chinyelugo DIG Ben Okolo and Lady Christie Onwuemelie, a seasoned Guidance Counsellor. The event also featured the warm reception of new members into the club, reinforcing its growing strength and appeal.

The ambience of the night reflected unity, mutual respect, and a deep appreciation of enduring friendships built over decades. Timeless old-school music filled the air, stirring fond memories as members danced, dined, laughed, and reminisced about “the good old days,” creating moments of genuine joy and camaraderie.
Special commendation was extended to Lady Jane Anionwu, Major Robinson Okoloji, Lady Ego Chude, Eze Idi Hon. Harold Ekwerekwu, U.S. war veteran Chinyelugo Chima, legal luminary Prof. Jerry Nwagbologu, Fred Anierobi, Akunnia Egbunike—an accomplished auditor in the Anambra State Civil Service, and several other distinguished personalities whose dedication and attention to detail ensured a seamless and memorable outing.

In his goodwill remarks, Hon. Harold Ekwerekwu applauded Governor Soludo for fostering a peaceful and secure environment that enabled Ndi Anambra to celebrate the festive season without fear. He further encouraged members of the club to sustain unity, cooperation, and commitment toward a more impactful future. In the same vein, the Patron and Patroness advised members to uphold the provisions of the Onitsha Old School Club constitution and remain united at all times.
The maiden outing of the Onitsha Old School Club was more than a celebration; it was a reaffirmation of shared values, enduring friendships, and collective purpose. As members raised a toast to the future, one message was clear—the club is poised for greater achievements and many more memorable gatherings in the years ahead.
