The Mayor of Onitsha North Local Government Area, Hon. Ezennia Emelie Ibekwe, has commissioned the Light Up Onitsha North Project on Oct. 27, an initiative designed to improve security, enhance visibility and provide safer streets for residents across the council’s wards.
The commissioning attracted the APGA Onitsha North Local Government Chairman, Sir Okwy Maduekwe; Leader of the Congress of Councillors, Rt. Hon. Nkiru Okagbue; and councillors representing Wards 3 and 4, alongside other party faithful.

Speaking on behalf of Ward 4 members, the ward councillor, Hon. Nancy Abadom, expressed excitement over the project, noting that the area had previously experienced poor street lighting.
Abadom said that residents were delighted that the Mayor had extended the streetlighting initiative to their community, describing it as a welcome development that would improve visibility and contribute to public safety.

“The project is intended to illuminate communities across the local government area, with improved street lighting expected to support safer movement and create a more secure environment for residents”, she said.
Residents commended Ibekwe for the initiative and his efforts to address community needs through projects aimed at improving their quality of life.
The commissioning marked part of the Mayor’s stated commitment to practical, people-oriented development and the transformation of Onitsha North through improved infrastructure and public services.
