Stakeholders in Onitsha have called on the Nigeria Police Force to sustain the security gains recorded by the immediate past Area Commander of Onitsha, DCP Chidiebere Nzota.

The Chairman of Onitsha Main Market, Mr. Chijioke Okpalugo, made the call during an interaction with journalists in Onitsha.

He commended the significant role played by the former Area Commander in combating crime, stressing the need for his successor to build on the achievements recorded during his tenure.

Mr. Okpalugo described DCP Nzota as a “crime buster,” noting that from the onset of his deployment, he worked tirelessly with his officers to reduce insecurity in the area to the barest minimum.

In his contribution, the Anambra State Chairman of the Civil Liberties Organisation, Comrade Vincent Ezekwueme, described DCP Nzota as one of the most effective Area Commanders in the history of Onitsha.

Comrade Ezekwueme urged the police authorities to consolidate on Nzota’s achievements by posting a successor with a high level of professionalism and commitment to security.

He noted that such a move would help sustain the current relative peace and ensure that Onitsha remains crime-free.

Other security stakeholders also commended DCP Nzota’s efforts in tackling persistent cases of kidnapping and armed robbery in the area. They, however, called on the police to appoint a competent officer capable of sustaining and improving on the existing security framework.
